Grassroots Launch Meeting for Connecticuts Business Group on Health

May 14, 2010

Mercer is extremely excited to announce the grassroots launch of the "Connecticut Business Group on Health (CTBGH)", which will be modeled on other business groups on health around the country, most notably based on our experience with our neighboring Rhode Island Business Group on Health, www.ribgh.org and the New York Business Group on Health, www.nybgh.org
  • We will share some draft goals that we think might be important (see below), but more importantly seek your input and advice on what is important to you and your organization. This group will consist of "business only, the purchasers of health insurance". We seek to leverage the collective voice and strength of Connecticut business community to affect change throughout the health care delivery system, including current and future health care reform.
  • We are pleased to be joined by the President of the New York Business Group on Health, Ms. Laurel Pickering and the President of the Rhode Island Business Group on Health, Mr. Michael Vittoria. Laurel and Mike will describe how their respective groups were launched and outline the significant accomplishments they have delivered to their business communities.
  • Mercer will also provide an up to the minute review of Health Care Reform and what it means to your business.
  • We will then tackle potential goals and the mission for CTBGH. We are looking to you for your involvement and leadership going forward in CTBGH….that is why we invited you!
Some potential goals for CTBGH:
  • Create a shared Connecticut business community vision of health care through hands-on involvement in the initiative from CEO's, CFO's and HR Executives
  • Create a proactive dialog between the business community and state government (elected officials and administrative agency leadership) on matters of health care policy, regulation and legislation based upon the exercise of sound fiscal judgment and quality standards.
  • Create a business community voice in the state promoting a "best return on health care investment" mindset, through a statutory and regulatory framework designed to create efficiency, cut waste, and improve/maintain quality in our health care delivery system.
  • Improve data analysis and distribution within our health care delivery system, i.e., hospital and doctor quality and performance, patient satisfaction and underlying cost structure and underwriting structure used by health insurance providers.
  • Promote health and wellness education with the goal of helping employees become better consumers of health care services.
  • Represent special and unique needs of employers in the state, from small to large.
We hope that you can join us. Be ready to share your ideas, we will have large easels/pads of paper to document all thoughts…
