Preparing Employers for Dramatic Changes in Healthcare

Thursday, June 4, 2015 - 8:00 a.m. to 11:00a.m.

New Haven Lawn Club
193 Whitney Avenue
New Haven CT 06511

Dramatic changes are coming to the US Healthcare system.  Led by tech entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, the $3 trillion industry is going to see disruptive innovation that will change healthcare forever.

The Connecticut Business Group on Health’s (CTBGH) mission is to help you prepare and take full advantage of what is coming.  Learn about things that you aren’t hearing anywhere else, and leave with information and knowledge that you can apply immediately.

Our June meeting is focused on changing healthcare culture through the Choosing Wisely campaign, which encourages patients and providers to have more candid conversations about which medical tests and procedures may be unnecessary when reviewing treatment and treatment options.  Choosing Wisely aims to promote care that is:

  • Supported by Evidence
  • Not duplicative of other tests or procedures already received
  • Free from harm
  • Truly necessary

This cultural change is especially important as employers encourage more enrollment into high deductible and consumer driven health plans.

Meeting Agenda

  • Preparing for Healthcare’s Disruptive Innovations - Hugh Penney, Sr. Dir. Compensation & Benefits, Yale University
  • The Choosing Wisely Campaign
    • Connecticut Choosing Wisely Collaborative - Nancy Yedlin, Chair Leadership Council, Connecticut Choosing Wisely Collaborative, Vice President, Donaghue Medical Research Foundation
    • Employer Resources for Choosing Wisely - Dom Lorusso, Director, Health Partnership, Consumer Reports
        • Website Launch Announcement
        • Sample employee materials
        • Potential Employer Pilot Program Opportunity
    • Best Buy Drugs (a separate Consumer Report program)
  • Measuring the impact of Choosing Wisely - Dr. Tom Woodruff, Director of the Healthcare Policy & Benefits Service Division, Office of the State of Comptroller

What’s In It For You?

  • Insights into the challenges and opportunities you will be facing in the very near future
  • Production ready, no cost, Choosing Wisely communication materials
  • An opportunity to be an early adopter of an important initiative

What’s Next?
In the fall meeting, we’ll introduce and explore other innovations by technology and service vendors that can be further leveraged to tackle these challenges in other ways.
